We have some exciting news to kick off 2026. In January 2026, Sales Agents Ltd acquired all the assets of AgentBase.
If you’ve worked with sales agents for any length of time, you’ll know the name AgentBase. Founded back in 1993 by Paul Brown, AgentBase was the first UK business created specifically to support independent, commission-based sales agents and the companies that work with them. At a time when this way of selling was largely ignored by traditional recruitment channels, AgentBase helped define how the model could work in practice.
Building a specialist business that lasts more than 30 years is no small thing. In fact, fewer than 5% of UK companies ever reach the 30-year mark. AgentBase didn’t just reach it, it stayed relevant throughout, adapting as the market changed while remaining focused on the same core idea: helping sales agents and companies work better together.
Over the years, AgentBase supported thousands of agents and businesses through opportunity listings, practical advice, informative legal and guidance articles, and its well-known Agency Opportunities Magazine. Many people will remember the early days when the magazine landed on doormats as a physical publication. Later, it moved online, where a full back catalogue still shows just how much activity and connection has passed through the platform over the years.
Salesagents.uk came along much later. We started operations in 2015, and from day one we focused on building a more technology-driven platform for the same specialist market. At the same time, we shared AgentBase’s values of being a people business and being easy to reach with personal service.
For many years, AgentBase and Salesagents.uk were seen as the two leading players in this space. We competed, we glanced over each other’s shoulders (or at least we always kept an eye on what AgentBase was up to), and we each helped push standards forward in different ways.
Bringing the two platforms together feels like a natural next step for a market that has matured. The upside is simple: all the experience, resources, agent networks, databases, and tools from both platforms are now part of the same service.
What does that mean in practice?
In short, it means we will more or less double our assets. Our database of quality agents, which we’ve put significant resources into building, received a major boost. AgentBase also had several interesting partner relationships that we are looking to continue and build on. They developed a large amount of content that we are keen to honour and promote.
But to be specific:
What happens to the AgentBase.co.uk website?
We have no intention of closing down the AgentBase.co.uk website. On the contrary, we plan to bring some of our technical expertise to enhance it.
There is a lot of valuable content there that can be a bit hard to find, and we aim to make it more user-friendly so it will continue to be an extremely useful resource in the sales agent space.
When it comes to the AgentBase digital magazine, this will be discontinued for the time being. We will consider reintroducing it in the future, depending on feedback from our users. For now, our focus is on merging the AgentBase and Salesagents.uk services in an effective and thoughtful way.
What does this mean for professional sales agents?
First and foremost, it means there is now one definitive place to go when looking for new agency and sales opportunities.
That said, AgentBase built up a large number of resources (agent factsheets, e-books, and more) that contain highly valuable information for sales professionals who want to succeed as independent agents. We’ll be putting effort into organising this content and making most of it freely available to our wider user base.
What does it mean for your services?
For all our Premium clients on Salesagents.uk, we’ve significantly increased the value of the service.
- All Premium clients will also be featured on AgentBase.co.uk, the longest-serving agent portal with a loyal and professional UK audience.
- Our headhunting and promotion team will use the expanded database when searching for qualified candidates.
- All of this also means higher costs for us, and it would be tempting to increase prices. However, we’re holding off on that for the time being and will try to maintain our track record as a company that hasn’t increased prices since 2017 for as long as possible.
AgentBase also built up an impressive collection of high-quality resources for companies. Even we weren’t fully aware of the sheer volume and depth of content they had produced over the years, including 193 legal articles alone.
We’ll be working on restructuring this content and making it more easily accessible for the combined audience of Salesagents.uk and AgentBase.
Personal, high-quality service continues
One thing that matters a lot to us is that Sales Agents Ltd shares AgentBase’s long-standing values. Both businesses were built as people businesses. That means focusing on quality rather than volume, being honest about what works (and what doesn’t), and providing friendly, personal support rather than hiding behind systems or buzzwords.
Our aim isn’t to change what made AgentBase respected. It’s to carry that legacy forward, while continuing to invest in new technology and tools that make it easier for companies and sales agents to find the right fit and achieve better results together.
If you’ve been part of either community over the years, thank you. We’re excited about what comes next, and we believe the combined platform puts us in a stronger position than ever to support the independent sales agent market properly.
If you have any questions, or just want to talk through how this might affect you, feel free to get in touch.
